Purpose and justification
The proposal tries to be in interest of the stakeholders of iron castings, civil engineers, to get a consensus concerning this proposal starting from the point of view of end users - in order of going on the market of the product which is the subject of open document.
Relevant documents to be considered: Basic standards, as are EN124 , AS3996 , AASHO, and others.
A B S T R A C T
Pieces are designed to be mainly cast by low grade ductile iron
(350-22, 400-15/18, 450-10/15 N/sq.mm-%);
Frames are designed to fit usual,
- a 700mm / 28", length of square manhole/basin or 750mm / 30" round one, top entry. (type 1, - section A-A)
- a 750mm / 30" length of square, or 800mm / 32" dia. round, - the same, (type 2, - section A-A)
but in a heavier and taller construction of frame.
DESCRIPTION:
The product which is proposed as a subject of open (private) standardization consists in a two-piece street storm sewer manhole or catch basin grated cover, to be mainly produced by ductile iron, for loading class of 250, 360, 400 kN,
The dimensional standard subject of product consists as follow:
- common as well experimental designs of lid structure, of 650 mm (25.625") overall dia.
- designs of frame pieces, interchangeable with each one of the grated-lid pieces designs.
> frame ensures a clearance dia. of 600 mm (23.625") for men access into the manhole/basin which has
a 700 or 750 mm (28" or 30") top length of the entry clearance; - but, frame has also a top opening dia. of 655 mm / 25.8125" for the lid going into the frame, (to set on the seating).
Mechanical drawings which the proposal consists in are considered as drafts, as well the
document for circulation, there fore there are provided "as-is".
Dimensions which are not mentioned, even in case there are or not structural thickness of pieces, are not the subject of discussion for the moment of document circulation, therefore each manufacturer will set them as he considers at best, in concordance with ductile iron grade.

The proposal consists in designs of street manhole covers of 250...400 kN loading class - in order to be cast by low grade ductile iron (350...450 N/sq.mm).
Note! Due to manufacturer and customer - hinges or/and locking devices may be designed to fit the lids and frames.
